: *reading the words of His Captain and contemplating* : Tal Captain...I trust You are well...a word of thanks to You for addressing this issue...as I have been spending much time in reading and study as of late, this is a question that has been running through My mind. : The worldview of the Gorean, along with its ideals are, in My view, in desperate need of consideration within the world W/we live. : I wish to address of a very specific part of the RT/VT Gorean lifestyle question. Obviously as a Scarlet Caste Warrior, the Codes of a Warrior are very meaningful to Me. : The Honour, Loyalty and Honesty of which You spoke Rollo are the very foundation of the Warrior Codes. The undying devotion of a Gorean Warrior to live by these Codes : is, in My view, what defines the foundational difference between a BDSM and a Gorean lifestyle. Before coming to Gor, I spent time in a BDSM site. What I saw, (and I : understand this may have been related only to this site and not BDSM sites in general), was "Masters" who were devoted to having a "good fuck"...but devoted to little else. : Without knowing that there was an alternative called "Gor" at that point, I soon grew tired of the limited worldview of BDSM, somehow knowing that there is more to being a : "Master" than owning and controlling a "slave". (I understand that this is a very simplistic understanding of the BDSM lifestyle) : It is here that I refer once again to a statement ( a paraphrase actually) that Senior Captain Xern made in My hearing. We were in a discussion about the Master/slave relationship : on Gor and Xern offered, "If I were on an island with no Gorean slaves...I would still be Gorean"...again a paraphrase...and Xern if I have quoted You incorrectly I beg Your pardon... : but the import of the statement has had a lasting effect on Me. : Without the Master/slave relationship as a consideration (and believe Me ...I LIKE to consider it...*LOL*)....then We are left once again with the foundational aspect of the Gorean : lifestyle...specifically that of the Gorean Warrior...the Codes...the Honour...Loyalty...Honesty...and Devotion by which We live and breath. I say to You My Brother Zeke...if You wish : to carry away anything from the Gorean VT world into the Your RT world...bring these ideals. As I think of My personal work of translating the Gorean worldview into My RT world, : I keep returning to these ideals. I freely admitted early on that a renewed focus on a life guided by honesty...loyalty...undying devotion and most of all Honour was needed by the : "Master" Gorean Shores knows as Ha Keel. I needed this focus in My personal RT life as well as My time spent behind a computer in "VT". I now see that if I will devote Myself to : understanding these ideals...and then translate them into My life...all else on Gor will come in due time. (like a Master/slave relationship....Rollo...I hope You now better understand : My action of to releasing My kajira ) : To conclude...and simply put...if We as Goreans want to consider the worldview of Gor and translate it from VT to RT...translate first the Ideals...live by Them...find Your Gorean heart : in Them... : these Ideals are very much missing in Our Urthen world...and very much needed. : I wish You well Rollo...May the Priest Kings look on U/us A/all with favor. : Ha Keel : Scarlet Caste Warrior : : Tal, and greetings......... : : : : Zeke, In all truth the question You ask is valid and understandable....... I will try to answer it for You to the best of My ability..... : : Goreans are no different than any other people...... When someone believes in an ideal or way of life, they often find many different ways of showing it ..... An example of the differing ways people see the exact same thing could well be any of the major religions.... How many branches are there of Christianity ????? Judaism ???? Islam ???? All believing that theirs is the * ONE and ONLY *..... So to is it with Goreans.... Don’t get Me wrong, being Gorean is NOT by any means a religion..... I only use the religions as a comparison .......LOL...LOL... I mean, lets face it, if man has NOT been able to accept the differing ways that His brother worships His God, how could we expect Him to accept the different way He sees His Male/Female relationships ?????? LOL....LOL... : : Okay, more to the point.... You seem to understand or except the VT concept of the Gorean life style...... The ways that those that come to an on-line environment, and is essence * role play * a Gorean lifestyle...... VT is VT and can’t or shouldn’t be confused with the * REAL * world..... There are many that come to on-line Gor wanting or asking nothing more than to spend some time here exploring a lifestyle that they feel that they won’t or can’t experience in RT........ and that is completely okay and right...... For those that don’t wish to take it any further than VT, on-line is great.......... But there are those that Gorean experience effects deeper or more profoundly..... Those that are not content to leave the ideals or concepts behind them when they turn off the computer and return to their RT world...... THESE are the ones that will tell you that they are RT Goreans.... or live Gor in their RT lives...... : : Do these people ride giant birds to work every day ???? Or carry swords and kill anybody that pisses them off enough ???? Do they walk the streets of their cities with their girlfriends, or *slaves* naked and chained ???? OF COURSE NOT !!!!! Lets get real here folks....... But then ..... going back to My earlier comparison, how many people that profess to be a * good Christian * ( or any other religion, for that matter ).... TRULY follow the ways and dictates of EVERY part of their belief ??????? : : On the whole, those that call themselves * RT Goreans * live the Gorean lifestyle to the degree that THEY feel comfortable with or that they can achieve in their day to days lives....... To the casual observer, yes, it may look more like the more common * BDSM * relationship...... But in the Gorean mindset, their * Mastery * over their slave(s) is much more defined or complete... a Gorean Master does not * make deals * or * allow * the slave to set limits to their servitude..... And like wise, a Gorean* slave * does not seek a Master that will only play with her, but instead seeks a true MASTER that will bring out the slave heart in her....... A Master that not only will NOT allow her to limit her submission, but demands total and unlimited submission from her........ THIS is the Gorean Master/slave relationship...... and it is the same in RT as well as VT.... : : Other points or facets of those that call themselves RT Gorean, are not related to the sexual Master/slave relationship, but deal with the * codes * of the Warrior caste, or the ideals of Honor, Loyalty, Honesty, and a reverence towards nature and things natural..... For some of us these ideals are a part of our daily lives, and due to the fact that they are NOT held with as high a regard in today’s society, to live by and with these ideals in our daily dealings with others and ourselves is enough to also say that we * live * as an RT Gorean....... : : Now back again to the * RT Gorean * point....... Anyone that says they * live * Gor, RT is not saying that they live the Gor of the books, but that they live their lives following the ideals and the practices of the Gorean lifestyle as closely as they can within the limits of today’s world and the dictates of our society....... They will argue the point of being called * BDSM * due to the fact that they honestly relate their situation to the different level of commitment that exists between * BDSM*, and * Gorean *........ : : I hope that this answers your question about the difference between the two lifestyles, or ideals .........
