: I think it is very important to draw the clear distinction between punishment in the online context, and punishment in the "real" Gor. : Punishment online is very different. Because all of online activity is at its essence consensual, punishment must likewise be a consensual affair. In other words, a slave can be disciplined only when the punishment is something that truly troubles the slave. The anger and disappointment of her Master is usually the most effective punishment. A virtual whipping from some Master for whom the slave holds little deference is not going to be very effective. : I've read message boards on other sites in which a slave has disrespected a Master, and the Master keeps threatening to punish her when he "sees" her next. Do you really think that the slave is going to actually remain in a chat site when this Master begins his discipline of her? She'll simply have "moat" problems, and drop off line, and the Master will be left holding a whip in an empty room. : Most Masters do not want anyone else to punish their slaves. And I believe that Gorean property laws can also support this position. Most Masters consider corporeal punishment to be their own prerogative; and indeed, who better than a slave's Master to determine what punishment, and what severity is required. When a Master says "No one can punish my slave except for me" they are reserving this right of discipline, and they are also speaking about physical punishment, such as beating, cuffing, whipping, etc.. the wayward slave. : There is, however, a way that any Master can discipline another's slave. First, by informing the slave that her actions are displeasing, and to detail to her the reasons for your opinion. Second, by informing the slave that you will be notifying her Master of the incident. And third, by exercising your right as a Master to completely ignore that slave until she receives corrective action. By not deigning to recognize the slave after she has committed a transgression and you have informed her of this, you, the Master, are exercising your ability as a Gorean male to hold such a slave beneath your level. : The advice I always give to a Master who has a problem with another man's slave is to take it up with her Master. Any punishment she receives from her Master is going to be much more effective than if it comes from you. And if the Master refuses to punish the slave for the transgression, you now might realize the source of the problem is not the slave, but the Master. Any Master should be willing to punish his slave if she has been found displeasing to another male, provided there are no ulterior issues involved.
