: In response to what has occured on the American Radio, I have decided to make this thread a new one to see what others think on the matter... for those that do not know the incident discussed, here it is in full from Pantheus, followed by My reply: : "It is being reported on, and discussed elsewhere that yet another interview of the Gorean lifestyle exists. Each week on Beyond Computers : we look at people and technology in the most interesting places: from : medicine to mathematics; from the frontiers of space to the edge of the absurd. Join me for Beyond Computers, life in the digital age". : Beyond Computers is also available via Real Audio and this particular segment is at: http://www.beyondcomputers.org/listen.html ; go to the bottom and click BC 164.ram - July 17 : What you will find is that the hostess in her search for yet more "edge of the absurd" found two females who call themselves Gorean slaves, and to get their 7.5 seconds of fame. : Why does it seem like the salon article all over again? : Anyway, one of the two that was interviewed, an "eden", admits to being a dominant who enjoys playing a slave in the bdsm world, while calling herself Gorean on this program. : The other, an "ani" admits to having a "long term live-in boyfriend who has NO idea of her Gorean involvements". : Some of you I'm sure know or at least know of one or both of these females, I know I do! : It's quite clear to me, at least, that again our lifestyle has been reported on by a slash and burn outfit for sensationalism, and again they have chosen to interview folks, all too willing, but not even close to being representative of that which they were calling themselves. : No one I know who takes this lifestyle seriously would be involved in such a media event." : ------------------------------------------------------- : My response: : "I don't know how it is in America as I live in Scotland, but over Here in the UK the Gorean Lifestyle is still "undiscovered" in the public's eyes. There are hundreds of programmes on BDSM and I am yet to discover a programme Here, on TV, or Radio, on the Gorean Lifestyle. : There "was" talk however of such a show being brought to light, when an RT journalist friend who entered online Gor for observation as "Matthews of Urth" had talked about Gor with Me and other friends who participate in the Gorean Lifestyle... either RT or VT... and he found it hard to get to grips with things on a "Gorean" Level and the BBC, probably the biggest terrestrial channel in the UK were considering running a documentary on it... for reasons unknown to Me, it never happened... and probably, just as well... the truth is, the public are still the same as they were years ago when Lange's publishers bailed out on the series and especially, knowing the British Public are much more prudish than the Americans... I dread to think what could have occured if a similar situation occured Here in the UK. : Few realise that there are in actual fact, a lot of online Gorean's within the UK, whether they are RT or not I do not know... it is hard to see in people's words on a computer if this is the case or not. I am not an RT Gorean by far though I do sometimes think and act in real time situations with some ways of thinkings that the Gorean ethos and philosophy means to Me, from what I think and how I take things within the series. : Everyone has their own view on how they should live the Gorean Lifestyle, be it RT or VT, and I am becoming, I feel, within Myself, an RT Master of sorts in how I act and behave, but I still have a lot to learn and I do not think that others have the courage, because of the public view, to determine themselves in the fashion they really wish. : A friend once told Me that anyone who enters VT Gor to be Gorean, has a feeling inside in RT to be Gorean as well... perhaps this is true... and perhaps that is why it is so easy for people to "be" themselves and Gorean when behind the safety of a computer, where the public eye is a Gorean eye, but sometimes, I think that those who simply "think" that by acting Gorean online they are Gorean in RT, who do not fully understand that there is so much more involved within Gor than simply "reading the books" and quoting points without any real thought or response that is their own. Unless "you" break down the books and the ideas and such and define Gor into "your" life, however it may be, what it means to "you", to understand the lifestyle, so much more than furring a kajira, or killing another in a Death Match... a world that defines various cultures, beliefs, thoughts and common sense... a wolrd we wish we still had on Earth, for in various time preiods in various civilisations, such a place has almost existed and perhaps "has" fully existed... I am no Historian, but the Roman Empire is a good place to start... the Mongols... and other such periods where men ruled by the sword and honour and slaves served and loved to serve... : A quote to consider: : 'Do you know, Tarnsman,' he asked, 'that there is no justice without the sword?' 'First the sword - ' he said, 'then government - then law - then justice. : --John Norman, Tarnsmen of Gor : The trouble today and throughout history from those days is that laws change, people want other people into power to benefit them and their ideas, noone is truly happy with their Governments today else it would be 100% votes to them and with new Governors comes new legislations and laws and people follow them and their ideas, such and such is wrong, such and such is evil, etc. then we grow up listening to propaganda on how women should be treated as equals, how the rule of the sword in the past was wrong and how previous laws should never have occured - who says so and how to we think like that, if we still do ?? : Throughout generation after generation we follow what the public say, we act how we think the public want us to act, we are now, in essence, simple tools created to obey and agree with who said this is right a few hundred years ago when in actual fact, in ancient civilisations, people were happy and people were themselves, if someone disagreed with the way they loved, they dealt with it the way Goreans deal with it, they stand up for what they believe in, no matter what anyone says... as I said, I am no Historian, and these are only My thoughts on how and why the public are what they are today... as Langes idea states... today, the average male is too afraid to speak how he truely feels and a female is too afraid to be what she feels is within her in fear of the "public"... that is the safety net of online... the public is not ready to accept such beliefs and those claiming to be RT Goreans should tread carefully in the future if such a programme comes to light in the UK, they hold our lifestyle in their hands, those who are brave enough should remember that there are perhaps thousands of such people that are afraid to be what they feel they are, it does not matter whether you think you are only a VT Gorean, if you feel strong in being Gorean VT, surely there is instinct within RT thoughts to suggest its the RT mind that acts in VT Gor and any alternative life that isn't within the "normal" public views... : BDSM is slowly becoming an accepted lifestyle, perhaps one day, if done in a manner opposite to what the 2 females Pantheus has spoken of when they humiliated Us, RT, or VT, that is what has occured, we too will be accepted... and who knows how many Goreans are out there that have not found it on the internet, and how many Goreans are out there that have not yet discovered something that could be within themselves... : I leave you with this long, perhaps overdrawn thought and again, it is only one mans view, and one mans thoughts..." : I wish you all well : TaKinitin of Ar
