I don't think Marius' comment was to be taken literally. Still, it demonstrates how one must always be careful about posting, lest their words be taken out of context, or misunderstood.

As for what makes a "true" Gorean Master... We could go on and on about the qualities and qualifications. And I don't think that everyone would agree on who would make the list even if we could all agree on the qualifications.

I have often said that it is not for me to say whether I am a Gorean or not. It is for others. I am very wary of the person who stands up in the tavern, proclaiming to all who will listen that he is a "true" Gorean male. Usually he is not.

My first point was that I am surprised that someone has not, to date, tried to compile a list of who they think are the "true" Goreans of web-based, or IRC, chat, regardless of their online Home. We all know people we consider as true Goreans who do not necessarily share the same tavern that we do. Does the list of Pledged Patrons equate with the list of "true" Goreans?

My second point is that when you really get down to the business of thinking up a list of true Goreans, it becomes difficult to judge some of the people. What if they once engaged in behavior you consider un-Gorean? Do you consider mistakes and errors they have made in the past? To what level of a Gorean do you hold them to? Tarl Cabot? Surbus? Ost?

Maybe someday someone will make such a list. And if my name is on it, fine. And if it isn't on it, that's also fine.
