Tal, and greetings.........
So saying , the line of thought that I would like to discuss, speak on, and ask others their ideas about could at first seem simplistic ..... But to Me, it seems to cry out for a more clear or concise answer ..... Simply put, Just how far from the *Gor * of the books can all of us go, or change things, and still in good conscience call ourselves ..... * Gorean * .....????? It is often said that the books of John Norman are but stories ... Written to entertain..... In truth, that is so...... But there are those of us that have embraced the ideals and social interaction of Gor , whether it be only on-line in the VT world..... or in our RT world also ......In either case we have accepted the concepts and social standards of this * make believe * world, and choose to follow the social structure that Norman constructed in His series of books........ Say what you will in response to this idea..... the term * Gorean * is, and always will be, linked directly to the world that John Norman created...... He defined the castes...... the codes.... the animals... .. the cities..... the Priest Kings, and Kurri .... It is His system of slavery, and values that makes us * Gorean *........ Yes, his books describe the basic roles of men, and women..... Free Persons, and slaves alike..... He set out standards of conduct, and detailed descriptions of this * Alter Earth * that we all are drawn to, and seek to emulate with our words and actions on-line....... Why then is it so often accepted to * Pick and Choose * just which * Gorean * actions or concepts will be followed, and which will be discarded as * not important * or un-necessary ???? Now I know that many things are a bit different from book to book..... What is said in one book as right or proper, may well be described as wrong or illegal in another story........Most often the reason for this is because of the settings of the stories..... ie: Free Companionships are valid and done in all Gorean cities..... EXCEPT in Port Kar....where there are no formal FCs ...... This is but one example, but others are there to be found..... These sort of differences are not what I mean to talk about in this letter........ What I mean to address in this letter is the actions or rules of some sites that see to be in direct opposition to the way things were done in the books........ Some of which I will try to list here in the following passages.... But there many be others that I miss, or forget ..... So, by no means is this the full list, or all of them....... While in the books it is quoted that only a fool frees a kajira..... The freeing of slaves was done many times.... both men and women..... The freeing of men allowed them to return to the role of free man with no stigma.....Once freed a man could go on his way, and resume his life like nothing had happened........ In the books women were also freed.... and afforded all the rights and privileges of a free women...... Why then is it so often taken as a hard and fast rule that * Once a slave....ALWAYS a slave * ?????? Is this a * Gorean * rule ????? Or a rule set on-line ???? And if so, WHY ????? The * same sex * issue.... While this has been agreed on by many of the web based chat sites that frequent the local community that will be reading this letter, as wrong and Not Gorean...... there still remains many that see the action as acceptable...... On Gor ???? I have yet to read a quote from the books that describes full and open acts of homosexuality...... So how can any site that allows or condones such still call themselves * Gorean * ???????? The idea of a room or whole site being a * No Kill. and /or No Capture Zone *..... While this idea may make it easier to run a room or site, there can truly be no question that on ALL of Gor, there could be No such a place....... LOL.. .. The idea of calling ** Kings X./ Olly Olly Oxen in Free **......* Cant kill Me, Catch any free women, or take My slave away * .... is so far from the ideas of the books that it makes Me wonder where it came from in the first place....???? The Gor of the books is a savage untamed world..... Where only the will and the swords of the strong set the limits..... Body Piercing.... Correct Me if I am wrong, but except for ear piercing of female slaves... and nose rings of the women of the Wagon Peoples..( Free, and slave alike...).... I dont remember reading about ANY other body parts being pierced...... Can anybody quote Me the book, and page numbers that describes * nipple rings * or *piercing * ????? Or * clit rings * ... * studs * or what have You.... ?????? Yet it is quite common to see kajira speaking of such .... This to Me makes a Gorean site look like just another BDSM site... By now, you may be getting the main drift of My topic, or question..... To say it plain, and simple.... How far from the idea of If it didnt happen in the books... Why is it allowed to happen on-line ????? Believe Me, I know that some changes must be allowed .... Because this system of on-line communication makes it unable, or impractical to adhere to the Gorean actions of the books completely....... My concern is just how far we as a group, will allow things to drift from the ways of the books ???? If today it is convenient to allow some small stretch of the Gorean way of life, or actions..... what about next week ???? next month ???? next year ???? And the further we move away from the ways of the books ... The less right we have to even call ourselves * Gorean * ........ I am sure that there will be many conflicting points of view, and many others with ideas ..... reasons..... explanations.... I am not condemning any person, or place ..... I just wanted to ask My question, and see what other points of view would appear.... As always, I welcome any and all to respond with their opinions..... Free, and slave alike........ And look forward to where this will all lead us.... So saying, I wish all well..... And hope that this finds all healthy, happy, and full of LIFE !!!!!!! Rollo~the~Ax Freedom to differ is not limited to things that do not matter much, A people which is able to say everything, becomes able to do everything ....
