Tal..
Reading Xerns response brings to mind a thought..*grins at the groans he
hears* First I appreciate your response Xern.
Now onto the thought that sprung to mind...first a quote from Xern..
"I have said before that if every slave in online Gor disappeared, I would still
come to the tavern. I come to Gor to learn, to educate, to interact, to discuss,
and debate. I come to see the beauty of the slaves, and their serves and
descriptions. But I mostly come to see those that I consider Brother, or Friend,
or even worthy adversary. The men and women of Gor who share my
veneration of the works of Norman."
I find myself agreeing with this thought, to often we become involved in
discussions about slavery, which seems to be the single segment of Gorean
society which so many find either personally fascinating, or personally
repugnant. It is my belief that we do ourselves a disservice when we forget
about the many other elements and attitudes which are part of Gorean society.
Slavery seems to me to be just one aspect of Gorean society that is used in
Normans books to repetitively point to some interesting commentary about the
realities of human socio-psychology. But that single element hardly
encompasses what Goreans do or what they are. It is my opinion that there is a
time and place for this type of activity on-line and enriches vibrantly the
interaction between Master and slave but it must be seen for what it is..just
entertainment and when this entertainment begins to bleed into more serious
interaction the tread of reality begins to blur in our dealing with others. The
entire spectrum of interaction is important, all the trappings lend to the
education process wherein a person learns enough about the planet of Gor to
understand the Gorean worldview, and to translate it into an effective doctrine
which can or might used in your own life. We can here in this medium
transcend what is possible, can get a glimpse of what life on the world of Gor
might be like and what part we might play there. This interaction is role-play
certainly and all of us indulge in it on occasion and can be a hoot. However
there are those that either refuse to or can't make that leap, from pure fantasy
to applications in reality. These are the ones who cannot see the forest for the
trees. The ones who choose to treat Gor as just a game for cybersex, for
gratification of some kind of power trip that in actuality signify nothing of
importance as opposed to others..myself included, who give the Philosophy
and trappings of Gor a more important place in our lives both on-line and off.
You see just as it is there right to "game" on-line it is equally our right not to
play. Games suitably Gorean in theme are all fins and dandy but it should be
understood by all involved that not all are always playing the same game but
unfortunately not all seem able to grasp this simple concept perhaps explaining
why the non-game-oriented Gorean tends to frown on such antics and to speak
out against them and perhaps explains to some degree the dourness so many
seem to prescribe to these types. I suppose to sum this up it is not so much a
question of gaming as it is a matter of choice in degree of involvement and the
level of importance given by each individual. A matter of choice..*s*
